Three of the twenty-four to start with. Or ask a question above and the right one is laid for it instead.
Take one.
The reading.
The job: where you stand, what it asks, where it leads.
Take it, leave it, or stay where you are. Three cards about the work rather than the offer: where you actually stand in it, what it is asking of you that nobody has said out loud, and where it goes if you say yes. Nothing here predicts a hire, and it does not pretend to.
- 1Where you stand
- 2What the work is asking
- 3Where it leads
The positions, and how to read a card in each
- 1Where you stand
- Your actual position in the work: not the title, the footing. A card here is how secure, seen or stuck you are, and it comes first because the other two are read from here.
- 2What the work is asking
- What the job itself wants from you, as opposed to what the people in it say they want. A demanding card here is not a bad sign; it says the work is real. A hollow one is the sign.
- 3Where it leads
- The direction this work is already taking you if you stay on it. Not a promotion or a firing: a shape. If it is a shape you would not choose, the first card is where you can still change it.
Already laid this one on your own table? Read the cards you pulled, in these positions, with the same engine.
The cards are Pamela Colman Smith's, drawn in 1909. The draw is sealed before you touch the deck, so it can be recomputed by anyone, and nobody including the engine sees a card before you do. Readings here never give dates except the sky's, and never give medical, legal or financial specifics.
