Three of the twenty-four to start with. Or ask a question above and the right one is laid for it instead.
Take one.
The reading.
What to do about it: what is happening, what to do, where that goes.
The oldest three-card question. One card for the situation as it stands, one for the move, and one for where the move lands. When you already know the situation and only want the second card, this is still the spread, because the third is the one that keeps you honest.
- 1What is happening
- 2What to do
- 3Where that goes
The positions, and how to read a card in each
- 1What is happening
- The situation as it is, rather than as it was described to you. If this card does not match the story you told the deck, the story is the first thing to revise.
- 2What to do
- The move, and it is a move, not a mood. Read the card as an action even when it shows a figure sitting still, because sitting still can be the action. It is the middle card because it comes out of the first and leads to the third.
- 3Where that goes
- The consequence of the move, if made. This card tests the second one: if the move leads somewhere you do not want, the reading is telling you to look for another move, not to accept the outcome.
Already laid this one on your own table? Read the cards you pulled, in these positions, with the same engine.
The cards are Pamela Colman Smith's, drawn in 1909. The draw is sealed before you touch the deck, so it can be recomputed by anyone, and nobody including the engine sees a card before you do. Readings here never give dates except the sky's, and never give medical, legal or financial specifics.
